The Mae tang Elephant Park is forty five minutes out of Chiang Mai in direction of Chiang Dao and the proprietors are in the process of setting up an elephant clinic to supply veterinarian care for the elephants. At Maetaeng they take a “soft” tactic to elephant training and the mahouts who are sent to nearby Lampang to be trained to bring up the elephants, some of which are fourth generation born in captivity. You will discover different views as to whether it is the right way to care for the elephants to keep them in captivity and do for tourists, but elephants have always worked in this area and by instalment the elephant clinic at Maetaeng, they will increase the veterinary treat of the elephants. Elephants can have health problems, such as constipation, caused by eating too many banana branches and insect infestation in their skin that has to be checked for daily.

On our route back we will visit a village of the Long-neck Karen and Big Ear hill tribes. We will be back in Chiang Mai at about 17:00 hours

Less than 2 hours drive out of Chiang Mai is the valley of the Mae Taeng stream. It is a liveable and ideal spot for various activities including sports and sightseeing.
